Data Migration to SAP S/4 HANA is not a ‘Walk in the Park’ for large companies.

The degree of risk & difficultly involved in successfully migrating legacy data to S/4 HANA should not be underestimated.

The root cause of this problem stems from the often poor quality of business data & the immaturity of data governance across business functions & IT departments.

Data migration tools & methods provided by SAP & System Implementation Partners, are incredibly useful. However, the validation of transformed business data during the S/4 HANA migration activities, often needs relevant business knowledge & an understanding of how the data will be used by the business after ‘cutting over’ to S/4 HANA.

To de-risk data migration & build-in the extra time for data validation, global companies need to start legacy data preparation activities & set up a Business Data Governance group / organisation, as much as 12 months ahead of starting their actual S/4 Data Migration.

This article illustrates the issue for S/4 Data Migration based on a survey of 52 senior decision-makers at SAP user organisations in the UK and Ireland.

Great article- makes me think that we need to pay more attention to our data preparation.
